Getting More Facebook Fans

By David Neuman, Social Media Manager

Everyone’s been telling you that your business “needs to be on Facebook”.  You create a Facebook Fan Page, write some information about your company, and tell all of your fellow employees to become a fan.  Then after a week you notice no activity whatsoever.  The same thing occurs after a month.  You are not getting any new fans, traffic, or direct sales from the page.  With all the hype about “being on Facebook”, it might seem that there is no point to having a Facebook Fan Page.  However, if utilized properly, Facebook can be a great vehicle for branding and sales.  Here are some tips to help increase fans and overall activity related to your Facebook page.

Update Page Frequently: Post pictures, videos, links, and status updates on a daily basis.  This will keep your company in the mind of each fan and can help to increase traffic and sales to your website. Additionally, every time you post on your fan page it will show up in all of your fans’ news feed.

Link to Your Page: An effective way to increase fans is by linking to your Facebook page from your website and e-mail blasts.  This website: http://www.socialmediabuttons.com/facebook-buttons.html has a bunch of Facebook buttons that can be easily added to any website, blog, or e-mail blast.  Additionally, you can add a fan box to your website or blog that automatically updates every time you post

Promote Your Page with Advertisement: Facebook provides the option of promoting your Fan Page through a PPC advertisement.  With these advertisements, you have the ability to reach a highly targeted demographic (i.e. age, location, interest, gender, education, etc.).   Facebook’s ad manager allows you to see exactly how many fans joined your page through the advertisement.

RSS Feed Integration: Updating content on a daily basis can be time consuming.  Facebook has RSS applications where you can integrate RSS feeds onto your Fan Page.  I personally recommend Social RSS: http://www.facebook.com/tos.php?api_key=92084c7ee59ac61561e2a4e4fb8a58ae&next=tabsettings.php&v=1.0&canvas.  This tool allows you to easily submit your blog feed, news feed, and all of your other feeds and integrate it onto your fan page.

Send an Update to Your Fans: If you’ve added any changes to your Facebook Fan Page, an update should be sent to all fans.  Often times people will join a Fan Page and forget about it a couple of days later. By sending fans an update, it will help to drive traffic to the page on a repeated basis.
