Facebook Recommendations – Place Pages

By David Neuman, Social Media Manager

Facebook launched a new feature today that allows users to provide recommendations directly on a place page. Now users can write their own recommendation, distribute it to everyone or just their network, and comment on other user’s recommendations. With this simple, but great new feature Facebook is providing place pages with an easy outlet to obtain customer testimonials.

With websites like Yelp seeing an increase in individuals utilizing their Search Engine to find relevant reviews, this seems like a logical next step for Facebook page places.  This feature should allow admins to gain further insight on brand perception (i.e. what products / services users like about a brand and why) and structure future marketing strategies on Facebook based on these recommendations. A company who notices that 80% of recommendations are about product x, should consider offering a discount for this product, for example.

As with most things Facebook does, the company is making sure to keep the conversations around this new feature positive by calling this “recommendations” instead of “reviews”. Page admins have the ability to take down reviews if they deem it inappropriate or negative.
