Facebook Timeline: What Does it All Mean?

By Jerome Benanti, Email Marketing Manager

If you think about it, the Web, along with Facebook, is moving towards being a scrapbook of sorts; in a recent overhaul of the Facebook profile, the Timeline was introduced. The Facebook Timeline replaces the existing Facebook Profile. Using an algorithm, the Timeline compiles the most important moments of your life through photos, videos, status updates and locations you have visited.

Divided into two main columns, the new Facebook Timeline serves to preserve the passage of time.  Facebook users are encouraged to fill in the gaps by adding events which were not captured by Facebook or that happened before a user had joined the social network.

The Timeline also allows people to control and have a more interactive experience with each of their postings, as it gives them more control as to what people can and cannot see from their past history of Facebook postings.

The Facebook Timeline will not only be an overhaul for personal pages but, brands will benefit as well.  It allows the brand to be more interesting. Through simplifying and streamlining, brands can now communicate with videos and pictures along with postings in one central location.  Focus on brand pages will shift from selling to sharing content while telling a story.  Brands can express what makes them unique.

Look for these changes to start rolling out shortly, as Facebook has already allowed people to begin utilizing the Timeline if they activate the application in the Developers platform.
